Just change the setting.  You probably only needed that much memory
for *building* allegro, not for programs just using it.

I don't think so.  The DPMI memory settings take effect before any
.bat file begins to be executed, and you can't change them from within
a running session, as that would mean cutting the branch you're
sitting on.
