In the old plain DOS I don't know any means to check (except by use of
a, perhaps, home made utility), but there is means to set it to your
desired ones. Look in your DOS command line for the command "mode".

There is a syntax for it (supposing the settings you want from this
thread):

C:\>MODE COM1: BAUD=48 PARITY=E DATA=7 STOP=1

and IIRC it is possible to do this way:

C:\>MODE COM1 48,E,7,1
