The best as I've understood it (for DJGPP use) is a late version as
possible because the DJGPP code hasn't been heavily changed for a long
time. But I'm not using it so I could be wrong.

You can find this version by looking in the FAQ for the Allegro site
(I presume) and then look there for a version.
