why would you want to invoke UPX automatically?  from my experience, it 
is much better to leave the program with all the debug info on, and then 
for a release simply run UPX on it and then package it.  this way if the 
program crashes while I am testing it, I can symify it...

i don't know, my coding doesn't get to be too sophistimicated so there 
probably is a reason...
