Thanks for the suggestion, Eric.

I now have

BEGIN_DIGI_DRIVER_LIST
  DIGI_DRIVER_SB
END_DIGI_DRIVER_LIST

in the code. install_sound(DIGI_AUTODETECT,MIDI_NONE,NULL) still
takes 36 seconds. Rats. Any further ideas? I'm thinking of copying
the code for install_sound() to my_install_sound() and adding a bunch
of timing diagnostics... But that's messy. Surely someone out there
knows what's going on in this function and can chime in? TIA,

Jabez
