the size of "hello world" is a red herring, but in any case, here is what
happens on my system:

C:\var>type h.cc
#include <iostream>

int main(void)
{
        std::cout << "Hello World!" << std::endl;
        return 0;
}

C:\var>gpp h.cc -o h.exe -Wall

C:\var>strip --strip-all h.exe

C:\var>dir

h        cc            101  11-15-01  8:13p h.cc
h        exe       146,432  11-15-01  8:15p h.exe
