thanks that did fix it, but I also found another workaround, in the 
Screen Setup under options, I had to mark off Other (where all the 
resolutions are), and also check off "External Program", although the 
program doesn't exist on my system.  this way seems to work better 
because the mouse is handled by the hardware???
