I've never built DDD, but I have successfully used the LessTif package with
MinG. I *think* you could do it with djgpp. There are some free X servers
available for Windows, but you pretty much get what you pay for. SCO's
XVision is quite a bit smoother, but most definitely is not free.

Getting it going would definitely give you something to do while looking for
a paying job.
