Taking the gdbm (v 1.8.0) package right out of the
box, and re-configuring and building it per the
instructions, which seemed to return without error, I
keep noticing that the test package contained in
'gdbmtest.c' keeps returning with an error.

Tracing the steps, there is a point where file locking
is tested with fcntl(), which the djgpp system always
returns as nonzero, and so the test cannot effectively
complete. Indeed, the gnu package, as provided with
the djgpp distribution, will ALWAYS fail for anyone
interested in actually creating and writing db files.

Or so it would appear. A search of the archives shows
virtually **no comment** on this, so that means
possibly several things:
(1) no one using the DJGPP system actually uses GDBM
to create/write db files...perhaps only to read them
(2) others have found what I have found and put in the
workaround(s) in the sources, re-building them and
crossing their fingers at the same time
(3) I am the only one to download a distribution that
specifically is designed to frustrate my intentions
(4) ?

Does anyone actually use GDBM under djgpp here....really?
