I have been having problems with gdb.
I am using gdb version 5.0
I downloaded it yesterday.

My programs usually take at least 20 times as
long to run when I run them under gdb rather
than directly from the command line.
Is this normal behavior for gdb?

If this is not the proper place to report
these problems, please tell me where to
report them.

Here is an extremely simple program that demonstrates
the problem:

----------------------------------------
int count;
int i, k;

class Paths {
public:
  static void car7()
  {
    for( i=0; i<10; i++) {
      for( k=0; k<1000000; k++) {
	if ( (i | k) == 127)
	  ++count;
      }
    }
  }
};

int main()
{
  count = 0;
  Paths::car7();
  count += 2;
  return count;
}
------------------------------------------

I compile this program with:
  gxx -g -Os -Wall test.cpp -o test.exe
When I run it from the command line like this:
  test
It completes in less than 1/2 second.

When I run it like this:

  gdb test.exe
  break main
  run
  n

The program runs for more than 20 seconds.

Can anyone else reproduce this problem?
Am I doing something wrong?
What is going on here?
Does gdb ever work right?
