I'm guessing that X86.s is actually X86.S (with a capital .S), and
should be passed through the preprocessor before the assembler.

Try this from the command line and see if it works:

   gcc -c X86.S

If it works, replace the command in the Makefile.

If that doesn't help, post the file X86.s here.
