You've shown the code, but didn't tell what exactly does it do wrong.
That makes it very hard to help you.

If you are still interested in solving the problem(s) you were relating 
to in the following excerpt from your previous message, please tell 
what does the code do that you don't expect:

  Okay done that.  Now I get colour but the formatting is incorrect.  I don't
  always terminate I have several char's printf()'d out and then 
  terminated at the end of the loop - could that be the reason?
