Ah, *that* new edition. That would be the one I mentioned above,
which is in the works as we speak.

> 2. Questions I need to answer before client adopts the software:

This is not really the right forum to post those questions. There's
an email address on the FSF site to send questions. However, since
this is somewhat relevant to DJGPP...

> a. Which operating sytems are supported?

All Microsoft operating systems and close work-alikes: MS-DOS, all
versions of MS-Windows (including ME and 2000), DR-DOS, FreeDOS, OS/2
DOS Box, and Linux DOSEmu.

I don't understand the question. The CD includes ports of GNU
software to the above-mentioned OSes. Each package has its features
and limitations, but I don't think you wanted me to list all of them
here.

> c. Will it allow long filenames?

Yes.

> d. Will it allow long command lines?

Yes.

To support all these (and other) features adequately on every OS, the
CD actually has 2 ports of each package: the DJGPP port and the Cygwin
port. The former should be used on DOS, Windows 9X/ME, and DOS
emulators such as OS/2 and DOSEmu, the latter on native MS-Windows
from Windows 95 and up.

There are no release notes, only the book that accompanies the CD.

You need to understand that the bulk of the CD is GNU packages, and
each edition picks up the latest ported versions. So the new features
and bugfixes are simply the sum total of whatever new features and
bugfixes are present in the new ports. Each packages normally comes
with a NEWS file, where these are listed.

The only ``bugs'' that are considered to be part of the CD preparation
are those in the installation procedures and in the book.
Fortunately, those are so minor that they aren't worth mentioning ;-)

> 4. I own one copy of the software. My CD says "CD-ROM Edition 1, June
> 1998". I assume this is Edition 1.0.

Yes.

You can't, at least not from the FSF, because both of these editions
are sold out (out of stock). You could try looking in book shops for
the book which comes with the CD, perhaps some shop still has copies.

> Windows doesn't seem to be able to copy the CD (chokes on filenames

???? What file names are those, and how did you try to copy the CD
contents? Also, what error messages, exactly, did you see?
