You can certainly do this in DJGPP (use CWSDPMI r5 under DOS to avoid
an r4 bug) - an example program snippet was provided on this forum
less than a month ago.

You could actually do this from any protected mode environment if you
had the ability to map the memory and set up an ldt to point to it.
