Try compiling from the command line
  gpp hello.cpp -o hello.exe
and see if it gives the same problem.  And yes, it has to be .cpp
or .cc; gpp.exe recognizes the language based on the extension.
Also, paste the exact error message.

Just tried it.
I get the same message.
