I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think there was a DJGPP version of GNU
make 3.76.1. Which may well mean that you're using a Cygwin or other
version of make, instead of the DJGPP one. Please check that

1) D:\DJGPP\BIN is the *first* directory in your path
2) there is a make.exe in d:\djgpp\bin
3) there is a mak3761b.mft in d:\djgpp\manifest
4) calling "d:\djgpp\bin\make -v" produces the exact same output as 
   "make -v" alone.
