for Win32 programming, have you tried LCC-Win32? it's lcc, not gcc, but
it can do both console apps (though it won't run in pure DOS, but that's
why I mainly use djgpp) and GUI apps, I'v only played a little with it,
but it looks like a good system if you don't need all the fancy MSVC
stuff
