I wrote a VBE wrapper myself (for Watcom, though), which works fine on my
Voodoo 3 2000 PCI card.  My test program request VBE2, even though the card
supports VBE3.  So I don't think it's the card.  If you care to follow up in
e-mail, perhaps you can send the relevant source code and I can take a look at
it (if you don't have anything against that).

My question is, though, why not just use Allegro?
