I think RMAIL in Emacs is as similar to PINE as you can get.  Even the
most frequently-used commands are bound to the same keys.

Actually, what you wanted is clearly explained in the Emacs manual ;-)

In the wonderful world of X (and on MS-Windows, btw), you can have
several Emacs windows (``frames'' in Emacs parlance) be open
simultaneously, one for reding mail, another for reading the docs, yet
another for editing sources, etc.

The important point is that Emacs has so many features that an
integrated mail reader makes it redundant to use another mail
software.
