This is probably because you use a djgpp.djl linker script that didn't 
come from djdev203.zip (perhaps from some old GCC distribution).  That 
script defines the default linker target as coff-go32-exe instead of 
coff-go32.  I suggest to remove that linker script and use the one from 
djdev203.
