first allegro question: is there an easy way to get the length of a midi
file in beats?

second allegro question: how do you draw transparent sprites in 256 and
true color modes. the help says you need to set up a color mapping table
or a blender map for true color but i dont know how this works.  shot
snippits of code would be helpful.
