Should Rich report this to the binutils >mailing list? I'm not sure if it's a bug or not. It's not intuitive that 'strip --strip-debug' decide to take out duplicate files. I think he should report it (to binutils AT sourceware DOT cygnus DOT com) and see what the maintainers have to say about it.
