This is to make it more consistent with standard practice on other

Sounds like a compiler problem.  It WORKS4ME.

Try upgrading to GCC 2.95.2 and DJGPP 2.03.

This may have been your problem.  Try unpacking Allegro somewhere else
on your drive.
