Yes, Chris you are indeed correct there are indeed things called signature
viruses, they are extrememly infective because they exploit a bug in
Microsft Windows mailing system to spread, and they also hog a
considerable amount of CPU power, hence the slowdown you observed.

One way to get rid of this annoying signature virus is to contact the
noted software author Damian Yerrick <d_yerrick AT hotmail DOT com> who has
written a virus scanner and removing kit (which he was greatful enough to
license it to MacAfee Corporation) and getting it..
