i recently downloaded GNU Make 3.79 and have encountered some erratic behavior with it. When i invoke it from certain directories it won't detect my makefile. e.g. when i execute make.exe file in c:\dev\proj i get this message: make.exe: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop. but when i do the same in c:\ the makefile executes fine. it also works in c:\dev aswell, but not in c:\dev\proj or any of the directories in it. can anyone explain why this is happening? I've heard that GCC has certain directores that it treats differently like \dev\, could make.exe be doing the same for \dev\proj\? I've been trying debug make.exe to see whats going on but have not been successful in compileing the sources, so if anyone also has a MS Visual C++ project file that will build the sources i would appreciate that too. (my email address is: boggy99(at)mail(dot)com. ---------------------------- stuff ---------------------------------- My PATH environment is set to: PATH=C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\DEV\UTILS;C:\PROGRA~1\ULTRAEDIT; C:\DEV\MASM\BIN;C:\DEV\TASM\BIN;C:\DEV\MSDEV\SHAREDIDE\BIN;C:\DEV\MSDEV\ VC\BIN The name of my makefile is 'makefile' it consists of: test : @echo this makefile works The directories i invoked make from consisted of only the makefile and make.exe I'm using Make 3.79 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- regards Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
