I usually recomend a real book for the basics. Then go on and get Allegro at www.talula.demon.co.uk/allegro/
www.allegro.cc has a lot of amateurgames, some with free source. You may want to study them. And finally,
I have put up my own docs at www.realsoftware.cjb.net Not the best but they might teach you something.
