I just tried Windows in that "safe mode" and the result is still the same.
But setup RHIDE.PIF so that it can run only in 80x25 mode and nothing else.
This works. I think VGA mode is not restored properly in case when program
runs in windowed mode, we switch it to the full-screen mode by pressing
Alt+Enter and after that try to quit. Everything is okay if program quits in
the same mode it was launched. I.e. if we run it in windowed and quit in
windowed it works. If we run it in full-screen and quit in full-screen it
works too.

Dunno, maybe we should add this to the FAQ as well.
