You're in luck. This happens to be the DJGPP newsgroup, and you can get
DJGPP from:

http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/

This compiler is free, and you can use it for anything including commercial
applications. You need a 386 or higher to run it, or the programs it
generates, but it is a very powerful compiler.

If you're planning to write computer games, you may want to check out
Allegro as well.
