When I try to compile from within Emacs (make -k) the floppy drive is
accessed and this is the display:

   cd C:\My Documents\University/
   make -k

Compilation exited abnormally with code 1 at Sat Mar 25 10:50:49

When I type make at the command prompt, it compiles fine.

I suspect this is something specific to your system setup. If you
have a _emacs init file, try running Emacs with "emacs -q" and if that
makes the problem go away, look for the cause in your _emacs file.
Otherwise, post here the details of your system and Emacs setup,
including the version of Emacs you are using.

Any ideas on why Emacs isn't understanding djgpp's codes?

It does for me.
