DSL: being launched in July, will be flat rate at about 40 pounds per month.
Cable modems: available, but never really took off. Hardly anyone in the UK
has cable - it's a sort of elitist thing which most people can't afford, or
don't want.

Yes, at present we pay for local calls. But with no monthly subscription
charge this means that if you only use the internet for a couple of hours a
week it's a lot cheaper than a flat-rate subscription in the US.
