True, the GNU Pascal compiler is gpc, and the GNU Fortran compiler is
g77. You'll need to find DJGPP versions of them somewhere on the Net
(are they on Simtel?) if you want to compile Pascal and Fortran.

But Pascal wasn't seriously intended as a programming language: it
was only devised to disprove a conjecture, namely, that a programming
language requires a "goto" statement. Pure Pascal isn't even all
that powerful. It just accidentally happened to catch on because
vendors' extensions (plus a dash of inline assembly) gave it enough
power to be almost a usable language.

C, on the other hand, came after experience with Pascal and was
designed to get out of the programmer's way and accept the loss of
safety.

But I don't want this to turn into a language flamewar.
