I recently installed allegro and am having some problems with the midi
support. i can play midi files loaded from disk no problem. however, when i
try and send midi messages directly i get no sound output. BUT, if i play a
midi file first, the midi messages all work. I'm using an AWE64 and wonder
if it might be a problem with bank selects? i've tried sending MSB & LSB
bank select messages, but they don't seem to have any effect at all (even
after playing midi files)

I've checked MIDI documentation and the bank select seems pretty obvious,
but it seems to have no effect. could allegro filter out bank select
messages or sth? all seems very strange to me, that midi messages are ok
after playing a midi file, but not before.

any suggestions/advice/etc would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
David.
