         I edited the file as you suggested, but still no luck.

         Dell OpenManage Client... our network guy wants us to leave it as 
is.  I never use it and I really don't know if he does either, or, for that 
matter, what it does.

         I don't remember adding these lines.  I thought they were 
'original equipment'.  But I deleted them... makes no difference.

         I am still getting the "fatal: can't create pipes message.  I even 
tried setting the TMPDIR in my AUTOEXEC.BAT file.  No luck.  I also tried 
creating a C:\usr\tmp directory, in case that would help... it didn't.
         I'm out of ideas...
