The what happens is easy, Grabber says "Error loading <filename" and does
nothing else. If there was a password or a plug-in would there be a
different message?

The exact files is a little harder, I've mostly been playing with something
called Myrmidon (a Gauntlet clone) which I found via the Allegro Game Depot
http://www.interlog.com/~wlach/ . However, I do have several other .DATs via
the Depot and _none_ of them load. Lot's of passwords?

Still, the story has moved on slightly, after reading the fine manual I was
able to dismantle some files using the dat utility. All I have to do now to
make the bitmaps editable is to bolt the correct palette back on which looks
simple enough.

In reply to Damian Yerrick

I have the Grabber V3.12, I'm not a great fan of other peoples wip software.
a) I have enough of my own and b) it can be a challenge getting fully
tested, matured and released software running ;-) (present company excepted
of course)
