And several hundred less powerful.
Well, if you want one specially optimized for GCC/DJGPP,
get RHIDE. Its keystrokes are like Mes$-DOS Editor's.

Which will be fixed when Wine comes out.

Or a Macintosh. Power Mac G4 is more powerful than
some Crays. Besides, you're dissing Emacs (eight megs
and constantly swapping). Vim has a much smaller
footprint. IIRC they both now have syntax coloring.

Then have it in alt.flame. In three and a half weeks.

DOS Vim. Windows Vim. Unix Vim. All free software.
DOS Emacs. Windows Emacs. Unix Emacs. All free software.
DOS RHIDE. Linux RHIDE. Both free software.
Lots of serious software is written with free editors. Just look
at Free Puzzle Arena (check my homepage); I used RHIDE.
Heck, lots of software is written with Micro$oft's crappy editor
(partially based on Notepad?) built in to Micro$oft Visual C++.

Suggest a better key? Unlike the Mac keyboard, the PC keyboard
does not have a "help" key.

No. ed is a line editor. vim is a fullscreen editor.

Wrong. Edit.com (both the QBasic version and the W9x
standalone) has never implied .txt. Notepad 95/98 can be set
not to imply .txt (pick "All Files *.*" in the open or save box).

C:\Personal\develop\arena>edit copying

does not open a new file called copying.txt. It opens the copy of
the GPL in my develop folder.

BOLLOCKS!
For example, to write the current file and quit:
In vim (multiplatform), it's :wq
In Notepad and most other Windows editors, it's M-f s M-F4
Now which is easier to type and understand? vim.

Vim is a real editor.

Bill Gates 3 fools with everyone's money.

For example, look at "BOLLOCKS" a screen up. IMHO,
M$ Windows users should throw out Not-pad and get gvim.

BTW, can anyone name five editors that influenced
the development of vi? I want to make a bad joke.

My .sig is too long to include in an e-mail or NG message.
Go to http://www.rose-hulman.edu/~yerricde/sig.html to see it.
