Well, think about it. A segment generally refers to a piece, or a part of
something.

The GDT holds descriptors which have a base and a limit, thus making each
descriptor a *segment* of memory from base to base+limit, just as the real mode
segment 0xA000 ranges from 0xA000:0 to 0xA000:0xFFFF.
