On my own UK keyboard I get two vertical bars. One is the | symbol which
is a shifted \ and the other is the ¦ (Alt Gr + `). Just to make things
more confusing, the | looks like it should be a ¦ and the ¦ looks like
it should be a | in Courier New in Win95, and at the DOS prompt they
display correctly. I'm sure it makes sense to someone, but I'm not sure
who. Anyway, the correct one for pipes is the shifted \ and not the Alt
Gr + `.
