You sure got yourself an awfully active thread going here...

I've just been siting in the background, reading everyone elses
replies and I think you're right about one thing; most of the people
haven't been hearing you. You don't want suggestions for alternatives,
you only wanted to float an idea and see what people thought about it.
Correct?

You've obviously looked at the available options (DR-DOS, FreeDOS,
etc.), so you know what's out their. You also sound as though you are
computer literate in general, but OS knowledgeable in specific. And
being a programmer can make all the difference in the world in
situations like the one you find yourself in.

I, too, am a DOS junkie. All my development is in DOS. Mostly for
myself, but you'd be amazed at the types of utilities I've written for
my company. And they all work just fine on 95/98/NT.

While I applaud your effort I suspect your task would require far more
than you anticipate. But, if you ever do get it off the ground I'd
love to take a look at it.
