Ninety-nine percent of the C++ compilers (DJGPP included)
read text files. I usually use RHIDE, but for some purposes
(cosmetic changes to be compiled in next week), I've used:
M$ Notepad 98.
M$-DOS Edit.
Editpad.
SHMANSi.
Any DOS word processor.
