My experience with an SB Live! has been good. Creative provide a set of
DOS drivers that will emulate an SB-16, and they even provide a Linux
driver. Maybe they are learning that there is life outside of Windows.
The SB-16 drivers work with Allegro under DOS.

[snip - I don't want to reply to the rest, because I own a Creative
soundcard and an ATI graphics card...]
