Try "gcc -v file.c -L. -lfileout". If that doesn't work, post the output 
from that commmand.

FYI, "gcc ... -lfoo" will become "gcc ... libfoo.a" IIRC, so "-llibfileout.a" 
or "-libfileout.a" is certainly _not_ what you want.
