Eli, you told me earlier that the conflicting copies of cxxfilt were
identical files. This is in fact untrue, as I've just reinstalled djgpp and
unzipped everything again.

From gpp295b.zip:
cxxfilt.exe is 157, 302 bytes.

From bnu281b.zip:
cxxfilt.exe is 55, 808 bytes.

That's quite a considerable difference. Maybe the programs are identical,
but the files aren't. Maybe one was stripped and one wasn't?
