This is not, nor has it ever been, the proper selection of gcc options
if you want a *fast* program. By not giving any optimization flags
(-O2 or higher, e.g.), you're implicitly telling gcc that speed
doesn't matter, for this program. You get what you asked for, then.

If you want to make a meaningful comparison, use at least '-O2' for
both compilers, or maybe higher levels.
