I once wrote such a package, using - uumh, I wonder what's it called
in English... oh well I'll translate it literally - place type
semantics. It's sort of object-oriented in C, but _not_ C++. If you
ask really nicely, perhaps I'll get my act together and put up a home
page with it there.

If you don't care to wait perhaps the sources of bc and dc can be of
help? (They're in v2gnu/bc*s.zip.)
