Try going to Project menu, and choose "close project". Then re-open
the file you wish to compile, make and run and you should be set to
go.
For whatever reason, I had the same problems that Rhide would always
start with a project open. The only way to solve this (for me anyway)
was to open rhide from my /djgpp/bin directory, close the project
(which I didn't realize I had open), choose Save Options from the
options menu. Exit out of rhide.
Then go back into rhide from your working directory (mine is
/djgpp/programs) and if you check your project menu "close project"
should be greyed out.

*shoot... after re-reading your message, it appears I typed the wrong
diagnosis. I'd never make a good doctor, I guess. Anyway, read the
FAQ and make sure your path statement is all set, then post the
messages that the compiler is giving you.
