Subject: Developing command-line install program like rpm
Reply-To: djgpp AT delorie DOT com

Hello.

I'm currently developing a command-line install program for DJGPP packages
called zippo. This will be used as a back-end by Laurynas Biveinis's
LBInstDJ and FrontZippo programs. It's being designed to allow easy
installation of groups of DJGPP packages. So, I have the following
questions for DJGPP users:

1. What do users expect to be in a C development package? e.g. make,
rhide, etc.

2. What do users expect to be in a C++ development package?

3. Is there any point having a supplementary libraries package containing
e.g. Allegro & libsocket? For that matter, do most people use Allegro by
itself or are there add-ons that are commonly used?

4. I guess there should also be a group for bash users, which would
probably include shellutils, fileutils, grep, find.

5. If there are any other groups you can think of, please tell me.

Please reply by mail as well as to the newsgroup, because then I can keep
the responses.

The zippo home page is here:

http://www.phekda.freeserve.co.uk/richdawe/zippo/

On this page you can find the spec for the DJGPP Software Manifest, a file
which tells zippo how to install packages and also contains lots of info
on the package. If you're really keen, you can download a source snapshot
of zippo.

Bye,
