Yes, I used MapMaker for all my tile-based projects "back in th'Day".. :)
It is the best one I ever ran across.  I even helped him to fix a couple
of bugs with the datafile converter... Feel free to ask me questions about
it, I got fairly intimate with the program itself before I stopped using
it.
