Help!

I try to compile something and an error saying:
file.c:16: parse error before 'BaseVar'
file.c:16: warning: data definition has no type or storage class

I've got
UINT32 BaseVar =10000;     /* our base.  For convenience. */
on line 16 in file.c

What's going on!
