I think rebuilding the compiler with stabs enabled would do it. 

Have you looked at Cygwin or MinGw32? They are a little more
straightforward, imho, and there seems to be a little more activity on
the Windows end. Be advised, though, that Cygwin is very much a Unix
expatriates community, and the traffic on the list is not very Windows
oriented.
