Hello,

I am new to djgpp2.01 and Allegro 3.1 under W95 OSR 2.  I have a PII 300 
MHz processor (on a 75 MHz bus = 337MHz) with a Leadtek L2300 AGP video 
card with 8 MB of RAM (3D Labs Permedia2 chipset).  I am running the latest 
Permedia2 drivers for windows.  However, my DOS sessions report only 2 VESA 
modes available.  I have the Scitech Display Doctor (trial only 17 days 
left) running which increases the VESA modes to 59!  I have been very 
impressed with the driver but not quite impressed enough to shell out the 
$40.  I am a grad student supporting a wife and child with one on the 
way... yadda yadda yadda.

I have installed djgpp and Allegro in order to a) learn C,  b) learn C++, 
c) write quick physics analysis routines in c/c++ and assembly for data 
analysis and number crunching.  I am currently using FORTRAN and assembly 
at school (Microsoft stuff... 5.0 and 5.1 respectively).  My advisor has 
written very fast assembly for utilizing a monochrome adapter (TTL/MDA) and 
monochrome display for producing the text and utilizing video mode 10h on 
the VGA adapter for the graphics.  I had to find help in order to utilize 
this arrangement at home since I had an AGP card and an LX motherboard 
(ASUS P2L97).  Mode mono confused both cards and neither would respond. 
 However, things are much better now :)  I do need to post the solution at 
a later time for others with similar desires/concerns.

Anyway, I am rather saddened by the VESA situation I am left in.  I looked 
at the FreeVB/AF, but my chipset is not supported.  Is the FreeVB/AF an on 
going project?  Will the latest (or almost latest) video boards/chips be 
supported?  I would offer to help, but I'm afraid I'm a little busy and 
lacking in abilities to attack this problem.  Do I need to just wait until 
I can afford the SDD? Or just stick with the two VESA modes I have.  I have 
tried to briefly look at the ML/GL source code from Scitech, but I am 
having troubles with the include with Rhide and/or djgpp.env as well as not 
being certain with where to begin with it.

Anybody else dealing with these issues?
Any solutions?
